Archive image from 1979. Vergotes was a live poultry and chicken market on Detroit's east side. Opened in 1939, in its heyday the market dressed a thousand chickens a week.

Of course you won't find many, if any, storefront markets like this in the US anymore. Fear of avian flu spreading has effectively shuttered the neighborhood industry.
